Welcome Ms. Buchan, Our New Fifth Grade Teacher


Mrs. Jacqueline Buchan served as a teacher and leader for various levels of education.  Mrs. Buchan taught kindergarten and led the School Improvement Team at the Academy of Detroit, Oak Park a charter school in the city of Detroit, Michigan.  She taught 3rd and 4th grade Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Greek History and served as the History/Classical Studies Department Chair of Westminster School in Annandale, Virginia.  Her experience continues with teaching high school social studies, leading Professional Learning Communities, coordinating High School Assessments and working with students at-risk in Frederick Countys alternative high school.  Most recently as the founding principal she helped design the curriculum and instructional approach for and open a new elementary school.  As the school evolved she left the position. Her new direction led to marrying Mr. Peter Buchan and relocating with her son Max to Ashburn, Virginia.Mrs. Buchan earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and then her Master of Arts in counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2000.  She completed the Educational Leadership Masters Certificate Program at Hood College in 2009.  She holds a teaching license in social studies, elementary grades, middle school grades, school guidance, and school leadership.  Mrs. Buchan stays very active.  She enjoys weekends sailing on the Chesapeake Bay as well as other outdoor activities with Max such as walking, hiking, and biking with her husband Pete and Max.  Mrs. Buchan loves her Pilates reformer machine too. You will also notice that Mrs. Buchan has a love of clothing and jewelry and has a flare for dressing to show her whimsical, warm, creative, supportive, and no-nonsense character.She is eager to start planning and even more eager to show her students and parents how deeply caring and passionate she is about building the skills that will enable each of her students to succeed.
